Kenny Yeow

Game Designer

​Hello! My name is Kenny and I am a Game Design student at UOW KDU Malaysia. I focus mostly on designing and building games that are filled with exciting gameplay and narrative. I also had experience managing and leading projects!

MY PROJECTS

Paper Pal (2024)

A 3D wholesome adventure game where you embark on an adventure as a sentient paper doll in a kindergarten! 

Genre: Wholesome, Adventure, Collect-a-thon

Engine: Unreal Engine 5

Team Size: 6 (1 Designer, 3 Artists, 2 Programmer)

Duration: 6 months

Roles & Responsibilities:

Project Manager

  • Used Trello to manage tasks and deadlines.

  • Ensured the game does not stray away from the core vision.

  • Ensured the team is working together efficiently.

Level Designer

  • Designed and built an open-world environment in-engine.

  • Designed and white-boxed environmental puzzles and set pieces in the open-world.

Quest Designer

  • Designed and documented all the quests.

  • Wrote the character dialogues.

  • Documented all the character interactions.​

General Game Designer

  • Collaborated with the team to conceptualize the player and level mechanics.

  • Collaborated with the artists to determine the overall art direction of the game.

  • Designed and created some sound effects (Foley).

  • QA and bug fixing.

Miscellaneous Programmer

  • Added controller support and dynamic tutorial prompts based on input.

  • Designed and implemented menu user interfaces.

  • Created shaders and VFXs. (e.g. particle effects, outline shader)

  • Created cutscenes/non-interactive sequences in-engine.

  • Created and implemented screen transitions.

Escape: Life (2023)

A 3D mobile Escape Room game about breaking free from a false reality made in Unity featuring gyroscopic controls. Nominated for Best Technology at SEA GAMES AWARD 2023.

Genre: Escape Room, Puzzle

Engine: Unity

Team Size: 12 (1 Designer, 6 Artists, 5 Programmer)

Duration: 3 months

Roles & Responsibilities:

Project Manager

  • Used Gantt Chart to manage tasks and deadlines.

  • Conceptualized, prototyped and blocked out all the game levels in-engine.

  • Designed and documented all the puzzles, mechanics and assets needed.

Narrative Designer

  •  Crafted the overall story and narrative spine of the game.

  •  Intergrated the narrative seamlessly into the gameplay.

Cinematic Designer

  • Prototyped, storyboarded, and implemented the non-interactive sequences.

  • Setup lighting & post-processing.

UI Designer

  • Prototyped and implemented the UI elements.

Miscellaneous Programmer​

  • Optimization.

  • Created and implemented screen transitions.

Silver Lining (2022)

A 2D narrative-driven puzzle-platformer about a robot trying to find meaning in a meaningless world.

Genre: Narrative-driven, Adventure, Puzzle-platformer

Engine: Unity

Team Size: 7 (1 Designer, 3 Artists, 3 Programmer)

Duration: 3 months

Sushi POP! (2023)

A 2D hyper-casual game where you protect your meow-chellin stars by feeding cute hungry customers until they POP!

Genre: Hyper-casual, Tapper/Clicker

Engine: Unreal Engine 4

Team Size: 3 (1 Designer/Programmer, 2 Artists)

Duration: 5 days

Platform: PC Window, Mobile Android

Roles & Responsibilities:

Game Designer​​

  • Designed and balanced the enemies and systems. (e.g. score, spawn, AI)

Programmer

  • Created the core mechanics using blueprints. (e.g. adaptive difficulty spawner, popping mechanic, enemy movement AI, high score with combo) 

  • Ported the game from PC to mobile Android. (setup Android dev kits, adjusted blueprint and packaging settings for mobile.

  • Created UI animations and visual effects.

Last Resort (2022)

A 2D reverse horror hack-and slash game where you play as a monster breaking free to find a universe where you no longer need violence to survive.

Genre: Reverse Horror, Hack-and-Slash

Engine: Stencyl

Team Size: 6 (1 Designer, 2 Artists, 3 Programmers)

Duration: 2 days

Platform: Web, HTML5, Flash

Roles & Responsibilities:

Level Designer​

  • Conceptualized the themes of the levels.

  • Documented and implemented the levels in-engine.

  • Conceptualized the unique level mechanics.

Narrative Designer

  • Crafted the narrative structure of the game.

  • Conceptualized and created environments and gameplay elements that potrays the narrative.

Quest for the Cure (2023)

A 3D wholesome adventure game where you explore an island and confront it's tenants to find a cure for your sick mother!

Engine: Unreal Engine 4

Team Size: Solo

Duration: 1 month

Platform: PC Window

Roles & Responsibilities:

Game Designer​

  • Built the level using the landscape tool.

  • Dressed the scene using free assets online.

  • Documented all dialogues and interactions.

Programmer

  • Created a dialogue system.

  • Created a quest system.

  • Configured lighting and post processing.

  • Created cutscenes using level sequencer.

A 2D beat 'em up adventure game with a sprinkle of the visual novel where you have to fight your way to freedom!

Genre: Beat 'em up, Adventure, Visual Novel

Team Size: Solo

Duration: 3 months

Biggie's Delivery Service (2023)

A 2D top down hyper-casual game where you play as Biggie to deliver food and spread happiness by skating around the streets of Kuala Lumpur!

Genre: Hyper-casual, Exploration

Engine: Unity

Team Size: 4 (1 Designer, 1 Artist, 2 Programmers)
